Liam Neeson Talks Surviving Plane Crash In 'The Grey'
'Nobody's going to send out reconnaissance planes to try and find these guys because who cares?' actor explains.

In most movies where the main characters find themselves stranded after a shipwreck or a plane crash, the survivors take solace in the fact that someone must be looking for them. "The Grey" isn't like most movies.
In the new film, which hits theaters Friday, Liam Neeson plays a member of an oil-drilling team that gets into a plane crash somewhere near the Arctic Circle during their journey home. Many die in the incident, and the remaining members soon realize that no one is coming for them. Unless you count the wolves.
Neeson told MTV News that the rougher edges of the characters in "The Grey" are what make the film something new and resonant. "They're definitely flotsam and jetsam of society. One of them says after the mishap with the airplane that 'Nobody's going to care about us,' " Neeson said. "Nobody's going to send out reconnaissance planes to try and find these guys because who cares? You know?"
During the course of the film, one of the characters makes reference to "Alive," the Ethan Hawke film about a rugby team stranded in the Andes. Neeson's co-star Frank Grillo described how their film and co-writer/director Joe Carnahan took a different road. "The element of survival is different because these are just much different men, as opposed to being civilized," he said. "They're not real civilized guys, and I think that's what Joe [Carnahan] tries to show you in the beginning of the film."
Even if the realization that no one will look for these men is devastating, Neeson believes that's ultimately what keeps the characters going. "It's from that sadness that they realize who they are and what they are and how they're just a speck of dust in society," Neeson said. "But that somehow empowers them to continue on with this crazy journey for freedom and solace and to get out of this predicament. It actually gives them strength, the fact that they're nondescript."

<P>Here in the States, <a href="/news/articles/1677260/madonna-lady-gaga-born-this-way.jhtml">Madonna sat down with ABC News</a> and had some <i>interesting</i> comments about Lady Gaga. In another <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=ukTFzM6Wfdg" target="_blank">interview</a>, on Friday's (January 13) <a href="http://www.bbcamerica.com/the-graham-norton-show/" target="_blank">"The Graham Norton Show,"</a> the singer seemed to take the high road and likened her early days of hustling in New York City to <a href="/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml">Gaga</a>'s beginnings. "When I first saw her, I saw her performing at a very small club in Manhattan a couple of years ago, maybe it was like three years ago," she said. "I was actually really impressed by her. I thought she was really cool and she did remind me of me back in the day. I liked her rawness and there was something fresh about there and ballsy, and when she spoke to the audience, she sounded like she had a similar sense of humor to me, quite ironic, and I liked her. So I do think she is very talented." That was really the end of the subject during their chat, other than when Madonna teased the British talk-show host about naming his dog after her. However, when he said his other dog was named Bailey, she quipped, "Not Gaga?" Some of that sentiment was mirrored in Madge's ABC interview, the rest of which airs on Friday's night's <i>20/20</i>. While she did call Gaga's "Born This Way" song "reductive" when asked about comparisons to her own "Express Yourself," she went on to say that she sees a lot of her own work in Gaga's. "I certainly think she references me a lot in her work. And sometimes I think it's amusing and flattering and well-done," she said, later adding that she thinks Gaga is "a very talented artist" and that she's making a "statement about taking something that was in the zeitgeist, you know, 20 years ago and turning it inside out and reinterpreting it." Madonna is currently making the rounds promoting her next album, <a href="/news/articles/1677103/madonna-album-mdna.jhtml"><i>M.D.N.A.,</i></a> as well as <a href="/news/articles/1674125/madonna-we-film-delayed.jhtml">her film "W.E."</a> <i>What do you think of Madonna's Gaga thoughts? Russell Brand To Star In Michael Bay's 'Hauntrepreneur'
Brand will also perform at Amnesty International's Secret Policeman's Ball, along with Coldplay, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert.

Russell Brand has nabbed a starring role in the Michael Bay-produced "The Hauntrepreneur."
The movie will revolve around a "peculiar man" (presumably Brand, given his penchant for those types of roles) who is hired by a family to help them adjust to living in a new town. Calling himself the "Hauntrepreneur," he creates a haunted house full of kooky characters to try to help them get acclimated to their new surroundings, Variety reports.
Paramount has yet to comment on the casting. It marks the latest move Brand has made since filing for divorce from Katy Perry over New Year's weekend.
On Wednesday, it was announced that Brand will perform as part of an Amnesty International benefit March 4 at New York's Radio City Music Hall. It marks his first public appearance since news broke of his split from Perry. Coldplay, Mumford & Sons, Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Reggie Watts and others will also appear at Amnesty International's Secret Policeman's Ball.
Brand will next be seen in "Rock of Ages," alongside Tom Cruise, Julianne Hough, Mary J. Blige and Alec Baldwin. The big-screen adaptation of Broadway's rock musical will open June 1. He's also attached to Diablo Cody's "Untitled Diablo Cody Project," which also will feature Hough.
Additionally, he's working with the FX network on a series of six half-hour late-night comedy specials that will be filmed in front of a live audience as well as an animated comedy he co-created that will air on the Fox network.

How Did 'Cosmopolis' Top 'Twilight' In Our Movie Brawl?
This week's 'Twilight' Tuesday takes a closer look at why fans chose Robert Pattinson's indie over 'Breaking Dawn - Part 2.'

Over the course of the "Twilight Saga" movies, we at MTV News have come a long way in understanding the franchise's very passionate fanbase. So when we launched the MTV Movie Brawl 2012, I thought there was a very good chance "Twilight" fans would vote "Breaking Dawn - Part 2" through to the championship round and into the championship slot, no problem.
I was wrong. "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2" was ousted early, in the second round, by eventual champ "Cosmopolis." Yes, the two films share a very popular star in Robert Pattinson, but compared with the millions upon millions of "Twilight" fans who have read all of Stephenie Meyer's books, we're guessing not as many are familiar with "Cosmopolis" through its source material by Don DeLillo.
So here's what I think: All of you wonderfully dedicated Pattinson fans are in it for the long haul. You're choosing to grow and evolve right along with Pattinson and the ebbs and flows of his chosen profession. That sentiment is exemplified perfectly by this poignant comment by MTV community member and Pattinson fan, Lior: "VOTE COSMOPOLIS! Support Rob's new, professional career! SEE HIS TALENT BEYOND TWILIGHT."
Not that the excitement for the final chapter in "The Twilight Saga" has lessened in any way, of course, but because there's more mystery surrounding "Cosmopolis," it is the more intriguing of the two films.
And let's not forget about Pattinson's other upcoming film, "Bel Ami," which only narrowly lost to "Cosmopolis" in that first round. I would have thought the interest in seeing a lot of RPattz's bare bottom would have easily trumped the film about a young finance wiz taking a day-long limo ride through New York City. But then there's word of a particularly heated scene in the back of said limo, so what do I know? Regardless, consider me pleasantly surprised.

Brad Pitt on Marrying Angelina Jolie: "We'd Actually Like To"
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have resisted the pressure to get married for more than six years -- but now that the pressure is coming from their own kids, it seems to be wearing them down! Pitt, 48, says in a new interview that marriage is definitely on the table for him and Jolie, 36; it's really a question of when.
"We'd actually like to, and it seems to mean more and more to our kids," Pitt tells the Hollywood Reporter.
And what of the actors' famous vow that they wouldn't get married until it's legal for all citizens, gay or straight?
"We made this declaration some time ago that we weren't going to do it till everyone can. But I don't think we'll be able to hold out," Pitt admits. "It means so much to my kids, and they ask a lot. And it means something to me, too, to make that kind of commitment."
When asked if he'd gone so far as to propose to Angelina, Pitt declines to answer.
"I'm not going to go any further," he tells the interviewer.
The Oscar nominee (for acting in and producing Moneyball) also discusses the possibility of adding more children to his existing brood of six.
"We haven't closed the book on it," he states. "There's a really nice balance in the house right now, but if we see the need and get that lightning bolt that says, 'We can help this person; we could do something here,' then absolutely."
Sounds like Pitt would be leaning towards adoption, then, although Jolie says she hasn't ruled out a biological child. "I could end up pregnant," the In the Land of Blood and Honey director told Marie Claire in December.
Jolie has also mentioned recently that the children have been pestering them about marriage. "They have asked, yeah, because... people get married in the movies," Jolie told Nightline in December. "Shrek and Fiona are married, you know?"
So if they end up walking down the aisle to Rufus Wainwright's "Hallelujah," we'll all know why!

Oldman calls Best Actor nod 'extremely humbling, gratifying and delightful.'

Once again, the announcement of the Academy Awards nominations has made for a flurry of exciting headlines and news stories and lots of bets won and lost in Vegas.
In addition to the early-morning reveal of the full list of Oscar-nominated individuals and films, the most exciting aspect of Oscar nomination day is the universal delight and happiness expressed by the lucky folks in question.
Celebrated thespian and first-time nominee Gary Oldman was humbled by his Best Actor nomination for "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy."
"This afternoon in Berlin I have learned that I was nominated for an Academy Award in the category of Best Actor," he said in a statement. "You may have heard this before, but it has never been truer than it is for me today, it is extremely humbling, gratifying and delightful to have your work recognized by the Academy, and to join the celebrated ranks of previous nominees and colleagues. Amazing."
Another first-time nominee in the Best Actor category is Demián Bichir, star of the lesser-known but well-received "A Better Life," who admitted to being completely overwhelmed at having his name read along with Oldman's and the other "incredible" Best Actor nominees.
"This could have never happened if Chris Weitz had not been the head of this film," Bichir said in a statement. "He is my brother and I thank him deeply. Hopefully more and more people will jump into iTunes and Netflix to see our film. That will be the biggest reward we could get. I dedicate this nomination to those eleven million human beings who make our lives easier and better in the U.S."
Five-time nominee Kenneth Branagh was "absolutely thrilled" to learn of his first-ever Best Supporting Actor nod for "My Week With Marilyn."
"It was a rare honour to play Sir Laurence Olivier," Branagh said in a statement. "To be recognised by the Academy for doing so is overwhelming. I'm absolutely thrilled."
Branagh's fellow Best Supporting Actor nominee Christopher Plummer was also thrilled with the news.
"It's a shot in the arm for a young kid of 82 to receive an Academy Award nomination this morning," Plummer said in a statement. "My gratitude to writer/director Michael Mills, the Academy and to everyone involved with 'Beginners.' "
Best Director nominee Michel Hazanavicius and Best Supporting Actress nominee Bérénice Bejo were expectedly over the moon about their film "The Artist" receiving 10 nominations overall.
"I am so honored for this nomination," Hazanavicius said in a statement. "Filming 'The Artist' in Los Angeles was a dream come true, and to receive this recognition today is far beyond what I ever imagined. I couldn't have done this film without the incredible cast of actors and outstanding crew whose heart and souls were poured into this project."
"I'm overjoyed and filled with happiness," Bejo said. "I can't believe that a year ago I was learning how to tap dance and today I am nominated for an Academy Award. It was a thrill to work on a project as ambitious as 'The Artist' and I am happy to share this moment with our visionary director, Michel Hazanavicius."
And last but certainly not least is a reaction from Hollywood's most awarded and nominated individual, Meryl Streep.
"I am honored to be in company with such beautiful artists," the 17-time Oscar nominee said in a statement. "And touched deeply by my fellow actors for their generosity in giving me this acknowledgment."

Usher's Next Album 'Soulful, Catchy,' Taio Cruz Teases

Set to work with fellow hitmaker <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/cruz__taio/artist.jhtml">Taio Cruz</a>, the two already cooked up some magic with their <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/guetta_david/artist.jhtml">David Guetta</a> anthem <a href="/news/articles/1670301/usher-david-guetta-without-you.jhtml">"Without You,"</a> and it seems they are hoping to recapture that spirit for Usher's follow-up to 2010's <i>Raymond v. Raymond</i>. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:717257" width="240" height="211"></div><p> "I saw Usher a few times, but I spoke to him at length at David [Guetta]'s house when we were in Ibiza [Spain]," he told MTV News in L.A. after his Jingle Ball set. Given that Usher has never shied away from exposing a bit of himself in his music, while also keeping the party going, Cruz wants to make sure they can connect the mind, body and soul for this next release. "He always wants there to be the soul in there," he explained. "I'm kind of, not the opposite, but I'm always like, 'Let's get straight to the point and be really clear with the message and be simple.' "So we try to match those two worlds together: being soulful and, at the same time, catchy," he added. Cruz can't yet discuss what they're working on: Besides "Without You," he said, "Everything else is secret." Usher said he was drawn to the <a href="/news/articles/1674782/usher-david-guetta-without-you.jhtml">Guetta hit</a> because he connected to it emotionally, explaining to MTV News recently what an important part that plays in his musical philosophy. "I think the world wanted a record like that. That [song] really spoke to the journey that I've actually been on in the last three years," he said. 'Arrested Development' To Shoot This Summer?
Michael Cera updates MTV News on progress of 'Arrested Development' movie and new TV episodes.

PARK CITY, Utah — Bluth-family fans collectively "blue" themselves when it was announced that "Arrested Development" would be coming back in both film and television form. Netflix announced late last year that they would be backing new episodes of "Arrested" that would pave the way for an eventual feature film.
Despite the good news, fans remain in the dark regarding when "Arrested Development" might actually go back into production. But according to Michael Cera, who spoke with MTV News at the Sundance Film Festival about his new movie "The End of Love," the Bluth reunion may be coming together sooner than expected.
"I've heard summer," Cera told MTV News. "So hopefully that's going to happen."
Still, like his "Arrested" costars, Cera is of the "I'll believe it when I see it" school of thought. "It's hard to be excited, because I don't feel any progress day to day," he said. "But I'm sure it's happening. I think it's just out of my realm of awareness. I'll be happy when we're on set doing it."
Cera's fellow "Arrested" actor Alia Shawkat also spoke with MTV News at Sundance and expressed her enthusiasm about getting back into the Bluth household sooner than later.
"It's been kind of following me around like a very attractive albatross," she said of her "Arrested Development" history. "But now it's hopefully going to happen. It would be very exciting."

Lady Gaga Gushes About Beyonce's Future Motherhood Skills
'My next baby will be my new record,' singer says of her own motherhood plans.

That's a tremendous understatement," the singer said. "She's the nicest female I've met in the industry. She's wonderful!" The two have quite the history together. Gaga and Beyoncé have appeared on two tracks (and in two videos) together for "Telephone" and "Video Phone." And while Beyoncé is nearing motherhood, Gaga admits she wants to wait a bit longer before giving birth to anything — but new music, that is. "Someday. Long, long day from now!" she said. "My next baby will be my new record." When MTV News caught up with Gaga last month, she opened up about her plans to release the <a href="/news/articles/1675458/lady-gaga-next-album.jhtml">follow-up to <i>Born This Way.</i></a> "I've started writing it and I have the name for it and all the concepts are beginning to flourish and take place," she told MTV News. But much like Beyoncé and her baby, a due date for the Mother Monster's next album is still to be determined. "I'm excited to put it out, but it's not done yet. So I'll put it out when it's done." Meanwhile, one <a href="/news/articles/1676772/beyonce-baby.jhtml">psychic who spoke to MTV News</a> helped us try to nail down just when we should expect Jayoncé's baby. "I feel that Beyoncé's 2012 is going to be very, very exciting," Jesse Bravo told MTV News.
