Joan Rivers has decided to move on from her gig as a red carpet correspondent -- and into the land of reality television. The caustic comedienne, 77, will star in the new WE reality show Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best?, which will follow Joan's life as she moves into daughter Melissa's home. Watch the preview below!
Joan and Melissa, 42, spent years tag-teaming as red carpet correspondents, but they say that their brand of humor has gone out of style with celebs.
"When we were doing it, you could tell Julia Roberts, 'I hate your dress,'" Rivers recalled at a press conference. But when publicists started denying them access to the stars, said Melissa, "it took all the fun out of it." Joan says she's sick of competing with less controversial hosts -- like Lisa Rinna, who replaced her and Melissa on TV Guide Network -- for the best interviews.
"When I found myself literally pulling Nicole Kidman's arm away from -- who's the one with the big lips? -- I thought, what am I doing?" said Rivers.
Joan Rivers was the subject of last year's excellent documentary Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work, which has given the comedy legend a resurgence in popularity. Although she claims not to like reality shows like Jersey Shore -- "I don't want to watch people who live in trailers" -- Rivers hopes her own show will be just as shamelessly entertaining.
"We hope Snooki will come visit us," she joked. "Are you kidding? We're whores!"
