Usher To Preview Looking For Myself At Off-Broadway Show

Singer tells MTV News 'Fuerza Bruta' matches the 'more artistic' music on his upcoming album.
By Jocelyn Vena

<P>This Saturday (and this Saturday only), Usher will appear in New York City's "Fuerza Bruta," an off-Broadway show where no one speaks, but the story is told through bright lights, music and dancing. In the lead role of Running Man, <a href="/music/artist/usher/artist.jhtml">Usher</a> will also use the show to preview his June album release, <a href="/news/articles/1682140/usher-looking-for-myself.jhtml"><i>Looking for Myself.</i></a> </P><P> </P><P>Fans in the audience will likely get closer than they've ever been to the singer, as the audience stands during the performance, becoming another member of the company. With several weeks until his album release, Usher explained to MTV News at a rehearsal why he wanted to use this show to preview tracks. </P><P> </P><P><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:764205/cp~vid%3D764205%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A764205" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed> </P><P> </P><P>"I felt like the natural elements as well as the emotion of 'Fuerza Bruta' would definitely speak or be significant to some of the stories and I guess hopefully a connection [was there]," he explained of tying this performance to his album. "When we began to explore different directions [for the performance like] maybe we use some of their music, maybe we use some of mine ... and before you knew it the idea came together. We tried it, I got on Running Man and it worked." </P><P> </P><P>The show will stream his entire album, which drops June 12, and he thinks the mind-bending artistry of "Fuerza Bruta" works with the sound he's created on it. "This is more artistic of an album than I've had in history," he said. "And I felt like yeah, it would be a lot for me, but I was willing to at least try it. There were many times I had seen the show and I only hoped that I would be able to make it happen." </P><P> </P><P><center><a href="http://www.mtv.com/photos/?fid=1617615"><img src="http://www.mtv.com/news/photos/s/spotted/banner/spotted.jpg"></a></center></p>

Tommy Marth of The Killers Commits Suicide

Tommy Marth, a saxophonist who played with indie pop group The Killers, was found dead in his Las Vegas home Monday. According to local newspaper Las Vegas Weekly, the official cause of death has been ruled suicide. Marth, who is survived by his parents and two siblings, was 33 years old.

"Last night we lost our friend Thomas Marth. Our prayers are with his family," Killers frontman Brandon Flowers wrote Tuesday on the band's official Twitter page. "There's a light missing in Las Vegas tonight. Travel well, Tommy."

Though Marth was never a permanent member of the band, he recorded with The Killers on 2006's Sam's Town and 2008's Day & Age -- and even toured with them to promote the latter album.

The band went on hiatus after the Day & Age tour ended in 2009, but are currently working on a new record that is due out this year.

Below, watch Marth and The Killers perform at London's famed Royal Albert Hall in the summer of 2009.

Lady Gaga Taps The Darkness To Open Born This Way Ball

What Is Mac Miller's 'Pink Slime' Project?

Pittsburgh MC remains tight-lipped on his upcoming collabo project on 'RapFix Live.'

Mac Miller isn't ready to start working on his sophomore album just yet, but he does have a few projects in the works. And though the Pittsburgh MC wouldn't give much detail when he appeared on Wednesday's episode of "RapFix Live", he did drop a clue about one of these projects.

"Everyone needs to pay attention for when the words 'pink slime' surface, just don't even worry about it right now," Mac teased while sitting on the "RFL" couch.

He wouldn't reveal whom he is working with on the "pink slime" project, but Miller did confirm that it is a collaborative effort. "I'ma just say, just keep watch — he's gonna be pissed that I'm saying this, but you're not gonna know who it is," he said.

Well, if "he's gonna be pissed," then that rules out a tag-team tape with Nicki Minaj right? Maybe it's her Young Money boss Lil Wayne; after all he did appear on Miller's on Macadelic mixtape. Then again, so did Cam'ron, Juicy J and Kendrick Lamar.

There is no release date for "pink slime," but it will come before Mac's Blue Slide Park follow-up. "As far as the album, to be honest, I haven't even thought about it yet," he said. "I need some time, man; I need to put together something. I'm releasing music, I have songs on songs on songs; I record every day."

Whom do you think Mac Miller is working with on his "pink slime" project? Tell us in the comments.

Bruce Willis Is As 'Kick-Ass' As Ever In 'Die Hard 5'

Producer Tom Rothman talks about John McClane's return in the 'emotionally driven' 'A Good Day to Die Hard.'

One thing's for sure when the next "Die Hard" flick hits theaters: Aging action stud John McClane is no worse for the wear and just as ready to rumble as he was back in 1988, when the first film hit theaters.

With Bruce Willis back for the franchise's fifth film, "A Good Day to Die Hard," producer Tom Rothman has made it clear that the butt-kicking star is just as badass as ever.

"[We've] started this week, just started. It's all set in Russia," he told MTV News at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. "Well there's bookend scenes in New York, but it's John McClane, goes to Russia and I think the technical term ... is f---s everything up. And the fun part about it, though, is there's a great moment where he says 'It's good a day as any to die.' "

Sure, McClane is throwing about his signature swag in the film, but Rothman assures fans that the movie also has a lot of heart, courtesy of the relationship between McClane and his son, Jack (played by Jai Courtney).

"He thinks his kid is a screw-up," he explained. "But, in fact, it's the opposite. The kid is more like the father than the father thinks. So it's very, like all the best of the classic 'Die Hards,' very emotionally driven and very kick-ass."

Director John Moore of "Max Payne" and the "Omen" remake is set to helm "Die Hard 5" with Skip Woods penning the script. "A Good Day to Die Hard" is a follow-up to 2007's "Live Free or Die Hard."

'Avengers' Already A Smash Overseas

Superhero movie, due Stateside in early May, is already breaking records in foreign markets.
By Kevin P. Sullivan

The Avengers have already started to assemble overseas, and early box-office reports are spelling very good things for Marvel's tentpole. The superhero movie that brings together Captain America, Iron Man, Thor and the Hulk has reportedly made $12.5 million in a handful of foreign markets and is already breaking records, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

In Australia, "The Avengers" has already banked $7 million, a total that has only been beaten by "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2," which earned $8 million during its Down Under debut.

The foreign rollout has proven lucrative elsewhere, too, as France added $3 million to the total.

Early tracking estimated that "The Avengers" could make more than $150 million during its early May opening weekend in the U.S. That would put the film in the same class as "Spider-Man 3," "The Hunger Games," "The Dark Knight" and "Deathly Hallows, Part 2."

This could potentially mean the biggest debut for a Marvel Studios movie yet. "Iron Man 2" currently holds that honor. The Robert Downey Jr. sequel opened to $128 million back in 2010. That's followed by the first "Iron Man" at $98 million.

"The Avengers" has the added advantage of higher ticket prices. The film is playing both in 3-D and in IMAX 3-D, so each individual ticket will add more to the final total. "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2" saw a large bump in its record-breaking run thanks in part to higher prices attached to 3-D showings.

Check out everything we've got on "The Avengers."

Katherine Heigl Adopts Second Baby

Actress Katherine Heigl and hubby Josh Kelley have a new addition to their family. It has been confirmed that the couple has adopted their second child together Heigl?s rep has confirmed that she and Kelley have adopted another baby. People.com was the first to break the story and is reporting that Katherine and Josh are the proud parents of another little girl. The new bundle of joy joins big sister Naleigh, who is three years old and was adopted by the couple from South Korea. Unfortunately that is pretty much all the detailed information that is being released as of now, however I would be willing to be all will be revealed in some sort of big magazine display, just my two cents. It is no secret that Katherine is all about adopting. She admitted long ago that adopting children is something that her and her husband of almost five years talked about adopting before they even became engaged. However that doesn?t mean she doesn?t want biological children because she has also made it clear she does want them, apparently she wants a slew of children. As you may or may not know Heigl?s older sister Meg was adopted from [...]

Is Believe The Place For Justin Bieber's Baby Mama Drama?

Pop star said he wrote about his 2011 paternity controversy on the upcoming album.
By John Mitchell

<P>Sometimes you just have some things to get off your chest. </P><P> </P><P>For teen pop phenom <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber</a>, one of those things is a <a href="/news/articles/1673599/justin-bieber-baby-claim.jhtml">paternity suit</a> filed last year by a 20-year-old California woman claiming that a brief bathroom rendezvous with him following an October 2010 concert resulted in her pregnancy. </P><P> </P><P>Rather than ignore the matter, Bieber is <a href="/news/articles/1683817/justin-bieber-believe-paternity-scandal-song.jhtml">confronting it head on</a> with his new album <i>Believe.</i> "That girl &#8212; Mariah Yeater &#8212; who said she was going to have my baby. I wrote about that situation," Bieber told the BBC of his new album. "Every song has a piece of me... I wrote almost all of them or co-wrote them." </P><P> </P><P><center><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:757407/cp~id%3D1682760%26vid%3D757407%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A757407" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed></center> </P><P> </P><P>The case, which Yeater dropped in November, has many wondering if Bieber was wise to commit his feelings to something as public and eternal as an album, or if he should have just let go of what was really a minor controversy. </P><P> </P><P>Though few believed them, the rumors introduced Bieber to one of the many pitfalls of celebrity and briefly overwhelmed his press cycle when he was trying to promote his Christmas album, <i>Under the Mistletoe.</i> The accusation challenged his family-friendly brand, something <a href="http://newsroom.mtv.com/2011/11/10/justin-bieber-legal-expert-weighs-in-on-paternity-case/">family law expert told MTV News</a> could be grounds for a defamation of character suit. </P><P> </P><P>The suit likely weighed heavily on Bieber, regardless of its merit, making it prime material for his songwriting. But does dragging it all back into the public sphere benefit him in any tangible way? His <a href="/news/articles/1683621/justin-bieber-paternity-accuser-message.jhtml">recent tweet about Yeater</a> &#8212; which read, "Dear mariah yeeter...we have never met...so from the heart i just wanted to say..." accompanied by an audio clip of Sasha Baron Cohen's character Borat saying, "You will never get this" &#8212; was neither subtle nor particularly sophisticated. And since details of the suit were made so public and remain fresh in the minds of his fans, why restart the conversation if there is nothing new to add? </P><P> </P><P>Responding to your own press is a slippery slope for celebrities, and it can do one of two things: clear the air or consume the conversation. </P><P>For Madonna and Michael Jackson, it did the former. "Billie Jean," Michael Jackson's classic declaration that he was not the father, was wrapped in a bit of mystery. There have long been contradictory claims that the song is about groupies MJ encountered early in his fame and that it was derived from a real-life experience in which a mentally ill fan claimed that Jackson had fathered her child. But it really doesn't matter; we just know that these accusations were out there, so MJ decided to shut it down with a song. </P><P> </P><P>The difference is, Bieber's controversy is already over and, considering few people ever believed the claims, was never a huge deal to begin with. </P><P> </P><P>Ever an expert at handling the press, Madonna held her head high when she addressed the massive backlash she encountered after she pressed through her sexually charged <i>Erotica</i>-era with a lone song, "Human Nature." She posited that people's anger with her had more to do with their own hang-ups than with her behavior and refused to apologize. Madonna knew she'd struck a nerve and defiantly declared, "Absolutely no regrets." </P><P> </P><P>She dually stood her ground and introduced something new to the conversation. With "Human Nature," Madonna held up a mirror to the public and asked "Is it really my sexuality you are uncomfortable with?" </P><P>Bieber needs to pay particular attention to this lest he fall hard into Taylor Swift territory, where the artist is practically expected to directly address the minutia of their private lives in every song. </P><P> </P><P>First, it was <a href="/news/articles/1599032/taylor-swift-explains-why-she-was-open-about-joe-jonas-breakup.jhtml">Joe Jonas with "Forever &amp; Always,"</a> then John Mayer on "Dear John" and <a href="/news/articles/1650042/taylor-swift-needed-to-perform-innocent-at-vmas.jhtml">Kanye West on "Innocent."</a> It's important, of course, for a singer/ songwriter to write what they know, but there's a reason we only just learned <a href="http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/entertainment/2012/02/the-man-who-inspired-adeles-rolling-in-the-deep-revealed/" target="_blank">who the subject</a> of Adele's multiplatinum, Grammy-winning <i>21</i> was (and why she's never confirmed it). </P><P> </P><P>We want to be able to apply a song's emotion to our own lives, but it's hard to do that when a track is either too specific or too self-indulgent. We haven't heard Bieber's song about Yeater, so we can't speak to whether it is either. If he has something new to say about the controversy &#8212; perhaps how it felt to be betrayed by one of his fans &#8212; then he may have found a way to turn lemons into lemonade. </P><P> </P><P>But if all he brings to the table are boasts about not being the father, well, then he should get ready for questions about how literal his love songs are regarding his relationship with Selena Gomez. Once you open the door and make your private life the subject of your professional endeavors, there's no turning back.</p>

<P>Listen up, Little Monsters: It's Mother Monster's 26th birthday! And in that quarter of a century (plus one year!), <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml">Lady Gaga</a> has managed to reinvent the pop wheel with her eccentric persona and pumping, politically charged dance music. When asked how she planned to celebrate another year, she simply told a Monster on <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/ladygaga" target="_blank">Twitter</a>, "Quinceanera." </P><P> </P><P>While we'll be Quincea&#241;era-ing in spirit, we <i>will</i> celebrate her colorful life and career by remembering 10 of the most-revealing bites she's shared with MTV News. So, dabble on some glitter, put on your best wig, platforms and leotard, and let's take a stroll down memory lane &#8212; in no particular order. </P><P> </P><P><B>10.</B> In 2009, Gaga sat down and explained that when <a href="/news/articles/1610702/lady-gaga-says-kanye-west-saw-past-her-poker-face.jhtml">"Poker Face" was re-imagined by Kanye West and Kid Cudi</a> as "I Poke Her Face" (later changed to "Make Her Say"), she felt that it was time for someone to get the true meaning of the lady-love euphemism. </P><P> </P><P><center><a href="http://www.mtv.com/content/news/2012/lady_gaga_26th_birthday_soundboard/"><img src="http://www.mtv.com/shared/promoimages/bands/l/lady_gaga/birthday_soundboard_032712/420x300.jpg"></a><br> </P><P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/content/news/2012/lady_gaga_26th_birthday_soundboard/"><b>Check out our Lady Gaga soundboard, and leave a birthday message for Mother Monster!</b></a></center> </P><P> </P><P>"It's funny, because a lot of my fans were like, 'Gaga, Kanye wrote a song ... and it's not about what your record's about. Your record is about gambling, and this song is about dirty sex things,' " she recalled. "I said to them, 'You're wrong. Kanye was right,' " she explained, laughing. </P><P> </P><P>"That's exactly what this song is about. The record is about how I used to fantasize about women when I was with my boyfriend. It was really exciting that he had so much insight into what the song was about. He's a cool guy." </P><P> </P><P><B>9.</B> Gaga's pop-music kinship with <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/knowles_beyonce/artist.jhtml">Beyonc&#233;</a> has been well-documented in two songs: G's <a href="http://www.mtv.com/videos/lady-gaga/741160/telephone.jhtml#artist=3061469">"Telephone"</a> and B's <a href="http://www.mtv.com/videos/beyonce/455581/video-phone-extended-remix.jhtml#artist=1236911">"Video Phone."</a> When Gaga headed to shoot the Hype Williams-directed <a href="/news/articles/1626441/lady-gaga-paid-tribute-to-beyonce-in-video-phone-clip.jhtml">video for "Video Phone,"</a> she had this message for the team: "I said, 'I want to do you in your video, and I want to tribute you. I want to dress up like you,' " Gaga recalled telling her co-star. "And Hype Williams ... was so excited. He was like, 'Gaga, I want no makeup on your face.' It was really stripped down &#8212; real Beyonc&#233; hair, and we wore the same outfit in the video, and I [paid tribute to] her." </P><P> </P><P><B>8.</B> Gaga's love for her hometown of NYC is hardly surprising, and she shared on the <a href="/news/articles/1664761/lady-gaga-marry-the-night-fernando-garibay.jhtml">MTV special "Inside the Outside"</a> that when she sat down to write the track <a href="http://www.mtv.com/videos/lady-gaga/742547/marry-the-night-official-video.jhtml#artist=3061469">"Marry the Night,"</a> "he" was the perfect muse to inspire the song. "It's never gonna go away, the tan of New York never goes away," she explained about always identifying with the city that bred her. </P><P> </P><P><B>7.</B> During the same special, Gaga opened up about her <i>other</i> inspiration &#8212; <a href="/news/articles/1664709/lady-gaga-fans.jhtml">her fans</a> &#8212; adding, "The biggest surprise to me has been my relationship with my fans. They've changed my life. The fans are the thing that you can't learn; they were the instrument in the music that nobody taught me about." </P><P> </P><P><B>6.</B> Always politically charged and motivated, Gaga has made it her mission to not only make chart-topping music, but also be a voice for the disenfranchised. When she sat down for <a href="/news/articles/1669351/lady-gaga-president.jhtml">"MTV First: Lady Gaga"</a> in 2011, she explained that, despite her strong political beliefs, she wouldn't want to run for office. </P><P> </P><P>"Well, first of all, I wouldn't want to be president for the day," she said. "And I say that because I really, for myself, it's important that my message, although it has political implications, I like to keep myself separate because politics can constrain things," she continued. "So, our message can be completely free of any politics, and we can just surge forward." </P><P> </P><P><B>5.</B> During that <a href="/news/articles/1669370/lady-gaga-mermaid-sex-you-and-i.jhtml">"MTV First,"</a> when she debuted her <a href="http://www.mtv.com/videos/lady-gaga/742495/you-and-i.jhtml#artist=3061469">video for "Yo&#252; and I,"</a> the singer discussed how difficult love can sometimes be and how her art explores that theme. "Sometimes in love, you can't make it work," she said. "No matter what you do, there's this giant boundary between you and someone else. So, that's what it's about: perceiving in your imagination that there's something magical inside of you that you can make it work." </P><P> </P><P><B>4.</B> At the <a href="http://www.mtv.com/ontv/vma/2011">2011 VMAs</a>, she pulled the ultimate costume change by appearing as her male alter-ego, <a href="/news/articles/1669944/lady-gaga-jo-calderone-monsters-fans.jhtml">Jo Calderone</a>. Gaga, as Jo, took home the Moonman for her fist-pumping equality anthem <a href="http://www.mtv.com/videos/lady-gaga/742058/born-this-way.jhtml#artist=3061469">"Born This Way."</a> Afterward, Jo explained, "She was texting me after the award, after I picked it up for her, and she just said, 'You know, more than anything I've ever gotten before, this means more to me, because "Born This Way" is about the fans and the fans are more important to me than anything I do; more important than f---ing breathing, you know?' " </P><P> </P><P><B>3.</B> In late 2011, Gaga released her semi-autobiographical <a href="/news/articles/1675400/lady-gaga-marry-the-night-costumes.jhtml">video for "Marry the Night,"</a> noting that history can be reinterpreted for her art, if need be. "This was one of the first times that the fashion didn't propel so much of the story line," she explained. "It is autobiographical, so the entire story's true, and it's through the lens of how I choose to repaint my past." </P><P> </P><P><B>2.</B> Behind every great woman is a great Haus. Gaga's famed, rarely spotted, <a href="/news/articles/1625758/lady-gaga-explains-her-haus-of-gaga-no-one-gets-it.jhtml">Haus of Gaga</a> are the folks who help create the live shows, fashions and accessories she wears. And they mean everything to her. "They're my best friends," she said. "I'm not really sure what the world thinks ... but I do hear things like, 'Who is the Haus of Gaga?' and 'Are you putting out a fashion line?' And no one gets it. It's not a commodity. It's not something that's meant to be sold. </P><P> </P><P>"It's a real bond and relationship, and that's what I think music and art is about," she said. "They are my heart and soul. They believe in me, and they look at me like a mother and daughter and sister, with pride and love." </P><P> </P><P><B>1.</B> In the end, everything Gaga does is for her art, and there's no place Gaga feels more at home than onstage in front of thousands of screaming fans. "I don't see the live show as extension of the record at all, it's meant to be a completely different experience with the artist, with myself. I want my fans to come and go to a party," <a href="/news/articles/1610781/lady-gaga-on-success-the-turning-point-for-me-was-the-gay-community.jhtml">she told MTV News</a>. </P><P> </P><P>"I want them to watch the show and think, 'I'm so f---ing cool that I am here right now.' It's about them. It's about love. It's about art. The show is meant to bring a tremendous feeling and sentiment of escapism." </P><P> </P><P><i>Share your birthday wishes for Gaga in the comments below!</i></p>

Kardashian?s $40 Million Richer: Thanks E!

Well, if you weren?t already sick of the Kardashian klan already, you soon will be. The power family just signed a three year, $40 million deal with E!. The Kardashians certainly are raking it in. They already took over E! for seven strong seasons of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians? and they will continue for three more. I have to admit, it is the best show E! has and I used to watch like a train wreck. Till Kimmy went and got all stuck up with her quickie wedding, it totally turned me off. But I still tune in occasionally, cause like I said, it is the best show they have and sometimes nothing else is on. You will see the entire Kardashian Krew – Kim Kardashian, Kourtney Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian Odom, Rob Kardashian, Bruce Jenner, Kris Jenner, Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner. Scott and Mason supposedly penned a deal of their own. I hope we see more of that cutie, and I don?t mean Scott. The $3 million doesn?t include other endorsements or projects for the family, or their spin offs, “Kourtney and Kim Take New York” and “Khloe and Lamar.? The most recent season of “Keeping Up With [...]

'Fifty Shades Of Grey': What's In It For 'Hunger Games' Fans?

As the E.L. James novel bumps the dystopian drama from the top of the bestseller list, we ask a few of Panem's faithful if fans should give it a read.
By Amy Wilkinson

Katniss Everdeen and her trusty bow and arrow can no longer fend off Christian Grey and his punishing whips — "Fifty Shades of Grey" has bumped "The Hunger Games" from its #1 perch on USA Today's bestseller list. And it's a contentious battle, to be sure. Seven of the top 10 are dominated by the various series installments by "Grey" author E.L. James and "Hunger Games" author Suzanne Collins.

It probably goes without saying that the content of these two sagas couldn't be more different: "The Hunger Games" is a teen novel chronicling a young heroine's fight for survival in a televised death match against 23 other kids, while "Fifty Shades of Grey" is an erotically charged page-turner detailing the sexcapades of a billionaire and his young paramour. Yet, both have managed to capture the attention of publishers, producers and pop-culture pundits.

While "The Hunger Games" was busy dominating the box office to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars, Universal Pictures and Focus Features (perhaps inspired by Lionsgate's success with the book-to-film adaptation) snatched up the film rights to James' buzzy novel for an undisclosed sum. A few weeks later, the English author was named to Time 's 100 Most Influential People in the World list.

Full disclosure: I've been hesitant to pick up "Fifty Shades of Grey" owning to its "Twilight" fanfic roots and "mommy porn" reputation, but as someone who writes about both books and films, I'll eventually need to become familiar with the life and times of Christian Grey — for purely professional reasons, of course. But is there anything in it for "Hunger Games" fans looking for another high-profile novel to devour? I asked a few of Panem's faithful.

"I haven't actually read 'Fifty Shades of Grey,' but I confess that way back in the day, when it was called 'Master of the Universe' and was posted for free online as 'Twilight' fan fiction, I did read it," said Hunger Games Examiner's Sara Gundell. "It is a dirty, dirty story — but hey, sometimes filthy fan fiction is fun to read. And while there is plenty of 'Hunger Games' fan fiction online (and plenty of it is also dirty), I'm not sure 'Fifty Shades of Grey' will appeal to most fans of 'The Hunger Games' based on what attracted them to that series. There isn't really any way to compare the two. They don't have similar themes, and the characters don't share any similar traits. They really are nothing alike. That doesn't mean some 'Hunger Games' fans won't enjoy it, but I can't see it having any sort of universal, crossover appeal. They just don't have anything in common, really."

For MTV News staffer Christina Garibaldi, the saucy series served as a palate cleanser after the death and destruction of the dystopian drama.

"As a reader of both 'The Hunger Games' and 'Fifty Shades of Grey,' I have to admit I'm a huge fan of both," she said. "Both stories have taken their audiences by storm, but keep in mind that 'Fifty Shades of Grey' does skew a little older and to women, while 'Hunger Games' seems to please both male and female readers. Yet, if you are anything like me and enjoy mixing up your reading between love stories and action novels, then pick up both books! You will not be disappointed."

Then there's The Hob's Megan Scott, who says she sees at least one (tongue firmly in cheek) similarity: hunger.

"I have been sucked into the 'Fifty Shades' vortex and am enjoying it immensely," she said. "Anything that is getting a lot of hype and is considered controversial I'll pick up. There really is nothing that really comes to mind that would intrigue an "HG" fan other than the common theme of hunger, but let's face it, Christian Grey's hunger is the different sort."

Consensus: While the two best-selling series share very little in common thematically, odds are in your favor that "Grey" may be as hard to put down as "The Hunger Games."

Ludacris Taps Usher For Upcoming Spring Album

'I'd say we're maybe about 40 percent done,' Luda tells Billboard about his Ludaversal.

For <i>Ludaversal,</i> he will get a little personal. </P><P> </P><P>"It's been a minute since I've been away from music, and there is just so much to talk about," he said. "So [the album] is mostly about my personal life, my travels, my experiences, rumors, gossip &#8212; you know, everything coming together in one." </P><P> </P><P><i>What are your expectations for Ludacris' new album? Britney Spears: Jason Trawick Gets Shared Legal Control Over Her

Britney Spears and Jason Trawick have been bound in the eyes of the law -- and they're not even married yet! The pop star's fiance was approved by a Los Angeles judge on Wednesday to act as Spears' co-conservator.

That means that Trawick and Spears' father Jamie will share the legal authority over Spears' general well-being, including decision-making about food, clothing and medical care. And apparently Spears, 30, made the request to have Trawick, 40, take on the co-conservatorship, and not the other way around. It's also important to note that Trawick will not control Spears' multimillion-dollar fortune in any way (that duty to Brit's father and an attorney).

"Jamie's thrilled," Trawick's attorney Geraldine Wyle told reporters following the hearing, according to People. "It's all in the family."

Spears' father has acted as her conservator since her psychological breakdown four years ago. Considering her magnificent comeback since then, it seems like a conservatorship is something that it's good for Spears to be involved in, and it's telling that she trusts Trawick enough to have him share that responsibility.

A source tells People that the conservatorship is mostly in name only, and that Spears has enjoyed -- and will continue to enjoy -- "plenty of personal freedom." The conservatorship will end only after her doctors advise a judge that Spears is healthy enough to handle her own affairs and doesn't need the assistance of others.

Spears and Trawick announced their engagement on Dec. 16, and the pop star couldn't contain her excitement when posting abut it on Twitter.

"OMG. Last night Jason surprised me with the one gift I've been waiting for," she tweeted. "Can't wait to show you! SO SO SO excited!"

Celebrities Get Down and Dirty on Lifetime's The Conversation

Celebrities Get Down and Dirty on Lifetime's The Conversation

When a TV interviewer sits across from a celebrity, she knows what the audience wants to hear. The juicy stuff! The success of the interview -- almost any celebrity interview -- depends on how far the star will open up about body-image issues, or a recent divorce, or the pain of infidelity, or the death of a family member, or, best of all, a personal disclosure she's making for the first time.

Lifetime's new talk show, The Conversation with Amanda de Cadenet (premiering Thursday, April 26, at 11 p.m. ET), zeroes right in on said juicy parts. The viewer doesn't have to sit through warm-up questions, like how an actress prepared for her latest role, or how a musician's songwriting process works. De Cadenet goes straight for the jugular, asking exactly what people at home would ask. Check out the sneak peek here:

De Cadenet, a British TV presenter and actress, used to be best known for her rock star marriages -- first to Duran Duran's John Taylor and currently to The Strokes' Nick Valensi. But her earthy personality and skill with a camera has recently made her an in-demand celebrity photographer, and that's granted her access to many stars. She asks them questions like "What are you scared of?" and "What's your favorite sex position?"

She gets Gwyneth Paltrow talking about her post- partum depression, and even dishes with Eva Longoria about her ex-husband, Tony Parker's, infidelity -- admitting that it made her doubt her own sexiness and that she would tell her 14-year-old self not to marry "that basketball player!" The clip also shows de Cadenet chatting with Alicia Keys about motherhood and her fear of failure, as well as as spot with Portia De Rossi where they discuss the star's eating disorder and her early resistance to being gay.

"The media is so jam-packed [with a] certain kind of woman and a certain kind of role model... and nobody can live up to the expectations that are being set for women today," de Cadenet tells TV Guide.

"Everyone is comparing themselves to these role models and saying 'Oh my God, I'm failing miserably.' But it's not real. The [celebrities] themselves are portrayed in a certain way, and even they can't live up to the public perception of themselves. We need to say, 'Look, we're all dealing with some similar stuff here.'"

Of course, famous people participate in maintaining unrealistic perceptions. They have to keep up their slim bodies, smooth faces and sunny dispositions, because that's what all the other stars are doing. If you air your dirty laundry, you risk losing your glorified status in the Hollywood constellation. That's why most interviewers start with the softball questions, and gradually ease the celebrity into more personal ones. And it's why so many celebrities resist answering, or learn to give vague answers.

So it's worth noting that de Cadenet's premise -- let's just talk about it! -- is more than a little disingenuous. Does she really think the ladies of The View, when questioning a high-profile actress, aren't trying to pry out as many intimate details as they possibly can? Every celebrity interviewer under the sun already tries to extract the answers to personal questions.

But de Cadenet's advantage is that she and the show's producer, Demi Moore, have something that most straightforward interviewers don't have: friendships with celebrities. De Cadenet's triumph is that she's figured out how to use those friendships to get celebrities to spill the beans -- and we're happy to sit back and watch what they have to say!

Take a look at a clip from the show's first episode, featuring Avatar's Zoe Saldana.   While sitting barefoot with her feet on de Cadenet's big, white, fluffy couch, Saldana comes across like a close friend who is confiding her deepest distresses -- and we can't help feel like we're in on the moment.
