Betty Ford Passes Away at Age 93

Having made a substantial impact during the course of her long life, Betty Ford has sadly passed away at the age of 93-years-old.

The former First Lady reportedly died late Friday evening (July 8) with her family at her side, with the cause of death not being revealed at the current time.

Miss Ford, the widow of former U.S. President Gerald Ford, is well-known for having founded the Betty Ford Center at Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, California after revealing her own battle with chemical dependency in the late 1970's.

Speaking on the news of Miss Ford's death, current President Barack Obama said in a statement, "She was a powerful advocate for women?s health and women?s rights. After leaving the White House, Mrs. Ford helped reduce the social stigma surrounding addiction and inspired thousands to seek much-needed treatment."

Meanwhile, former Commander-In-Chief George H.W. Bush echoed similar praise while telling, "No one confronted life?s struggles with more fortitude or honesty, and as a result, we all learned from the challenges she faced. The Betty Ford Center, which already has helped change the lives of thousands of people, will be her lasting legacy of care and concern."
