Catherine Zeta-Jones wasn't able to bring husband Michael Douglas along to the Ryder Cup "Welcome to Wales" gala -- but the actress did bearing good news.
According to People, Jones, 41, said Douglas, 65, who is currently battling throat cancer, is "doing very well."
"He is holding up with strength and dignity," she said of her husband of ten years. "He is about to finish his treatment and the doctors could not be happier...Michael will be on Skype screaming for the Americans. He wishes he could be here."
A friend of the pair said it was important to him that Zeta-Jones still go. "This has been on her calendar for months, and Michael insisted she go," the friend said. "They are both golf lovers. This is important to Catherine and to Wales, so she made it a quick trip to be a part of the important night, and get right home."
The Western Mail reports that one of the event's other big attendees, Prince Charles, had some encouraging words for the Jones-Douglas clan. "Give him my best," he said. "Healing thoughts."
