Lady Gaga may have the world at her fingertips, but in a newly released clip from her May 7 HBO concert documentary, "Lady Gaga Presents The Monster Ball Tour: At Madison Square Garden," Mother Monster reveals that even she isn't immune to self doubt.
In the video, Gaga breaks down in the dressing room before the live show, crying into the mirror: "I still sometimes feel like a loser kid in high school. And I just have to pick myself up and tell myself that I'm a superstar every morning so that I can get through this day and be for my fans what they need for me to be."
It's powerful footage, showing a vulnerable side to Lady Gaga we've rarely seen. Reminiscent of Madonna's black-and-white backstage documentary Truth or Dare, the footage also shows Gaga asking her hair and makeup people to pray with her before the show. Watch the clip below!
Being likened to Madonna is nothing new to Gaga, though she recently called such comparisons "retarded" (then issued an apology for using that insensitive term). However, there are similarities. Like Madonna, Lady Gaga grew up Catholic and went to Catholic school in New York (the all-girls school Convent of the Sacred Heart). Returning to her hometown to play at the iconic Madison Square Garden brings up strong emotions in Lady Gaga, evident in the clip.
Lady Gaga prays, "Dear Lord, please give me strength to be a winner for all my fans and not for myself. Dear Lord, remind me not to empower myself but those around me, because that is my gift ... Please help me to be strong." Watch the clip below!
