Experienced mother Gisele Bundchen put her parenting skills to the test when she nurtured a baby elephant!
The supermodel got to play mama to an orphaned baby elephant during a recent visit to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, a nature preserve that shelters juvenile elephants who've lost their mothers to poaching or the elements. (The trust and its founder, Dame Daphne Sheldrick, were featured in the documentary Born to Be Wild last year).
During her visit, Bundchen, 31, was able to interact with the baby elephants and even bottle feed one during feeding time. She shared about the life-changing experience on her Facebook page and her personal site.
"When I entered the David Sheldrick Wildlife Sanctuary it felt like being in a dream," she wrote. "We walked into a big field and within minutes we were surrounded by groups of baby elephants."
The educational trip also inspired Bundchen, who's famously married to New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, to share her thoughts about caring for endangered animals. She encouraged her fans (in both English and her native Portuguese) to take a stand and support the work the Trust is doing in Africa and join her in the Say No to Ivory campaign.
"I will never understand how someone could kill or harm an animal as beautiful and special as an elephant. We need to speak up for these animals or they will continue to be in danger."
