In the wake of Whitney Houston's untimely Feb. 11 death, retail giant Target is scrambling to pull a line of cards that reads: "Next time you think of dating the bad boy, consider Whitney Houston. That's all I'm going to say." Yeah, probably not the most tasteful card to be shilling at the moment -- a fact Target is now well aware of.
"The card was in our stores prior to Ms. Houston's death," a rep for the store tells TMZ. "As soon as this was brought to our attention, we began the process of removing the card from all applicable stores."
The greeting card is obviously poking fun at Houston's troubles, including drug and alcohol addiction, which many believe began when she married bad-boy singer Bobby Brown in 1992. Considering that her death was reportedly caused by a prescription drug overdose, the card seems more than insensitive.
Are there similar greeting cards like that about Lindsay Lohan, Demi Lovato and Britney Spears, all of whom have had their own troubles in recent years? We sure hope not. It's one thing to make jokes at a celebrity's expense, but another thing entirely to sell them at a retail store. That's all we're going to say.
