We've already shown you the clip of Gwyneth Paltrow crooning a country ballad from her upcoming film, Country Song. We figured that the "Country Strong" video was just a clever movie promotion, but now it looks like Paltrow is actually making a play to be the next big country star. The actress announced on Wednesday that she'll be performing "Country Strong" with Vince Gill at the Country Music Association Awards on Nov. 10. So: does she have a shot at Nashville fame?
In our iVillage poll, most of you voted that Paltrow has the pipes for a music career. Her voice is solid, she's recently learned guitar, and she looks great in cowboy boots and a perm. Based on those things alone, Paltrow could be the next Faith Hill.
However, nothing else about Gwyneth Paltrow fits the country-star mold. We've noticed that there are no country songs about attending expensive prep schools in New York City, or cooking macrobiotic food in a London townhouse. It's not that every country singer has a rags-to-riches story -- Taylor Swift, for example, comes from a well-to-do family -- but there's a certain lifestyle that seems to go hand-in-hand with the music. Will she be able to win over country fans, or will they send her back to New York City? In fairness, Paltrow did blog about trying fried chicken this summer -- so maybe there's hope for her yet!
