The world has watched the shocking downfall of the once-loved Mel Gibson, but no one has seen it unfold quite like Oksana Grigorieva. The ex of the Oscar-winning actor-director has been in the public eye since she released those disturbing audio tapes that started it all.
Now Grigorieva, 40, has opened up to People magazine about her scary ordeal.
Though Grigorieva had originally planned to talk to Oprah Winfrey, the judge presiding over their custody case put a gag order on the couple. "The lawyers had to put a stop to [Oprah] because it is a violation of the judge's seal," a source told E! "But the People magazine interview already took place, so they couldn't stop that."
While Gibson, 54, declined to talk to the magazine for the article, Grigorieva laid the details of their relationship all out on the table. The Russian-born musician recalls a time when Gibson attacked her while she was holding their young daughter Lucia (a claim which Gibson has disputed). "I thought he would kill me," she tells People.
Grigorieva also explains why she decided to release those chilling recorded telephone calls. "I needed to document his threats," she says. But she insists that she never tried to extort Gibson, nor did she intentionally leak the tapes.
Despite all that's happened, Grigorieva says she's not mad -- she just wants the best for her child. "I'm not angry at him," she says. "For the sake of Lucia, I really want him to be well. He has to have the courage to be responsible for what he's done."
PopEater.com reported last week that Grigorieva and Gibson would be sharing joint custody because of documents signed in May that granted "unsupervised contact with the couple's baby daughter, Lucia." The report also stated that for the couple is set to have their custody agreement "shift to an even 50/50 split when Lucia turns 3."
