Minnie Driver may not have been ready for the way Good Will Hunting catapulted her to stardom. A newcomer to Hollywood at the time, Driver earned a best supporting actress nomination for playing Matt Damon's Harvard-educated love interest in the 1997 drama.
But the Academy Award nomination and the overnight success led to some unhealthy habits for the British actress, who was 27 when Good Will Hunting was released.
"I definitely went a bit bonkers in my early 20s, when I got famous quickly," Driver told the U.K.'s Stylist magazine. "Bonkers in a way where I didn't eat enough, I drank too much, smoked too many cigarettes, cried a lot and was very emotional."
Fifteen years later, the 42-year-old actress reveals that she let her weight plunge to a dangerous 98 pounds -- until her sister, model-and-producer Kate Driver, told her she was unrecognizable and "behaving like an idiot." Kate's brutal honesty, Driver says, compelled her to seek professional help.
"Hollywood is portrayed in this super glamorous way, but when I see pictures of actresses going off the rails, it doesn't surprise me at all," Driver says.
Now a mother to 3-year-old Henry, Driver wants to document her experiences in Hollywood in an upcoming autobiography.
"I came back to England and sorted myself out... You have to have solid family and friends," Driver explains.
