Just what is happening behind the scenes of The Colbert Report? Host Stephen Colbert has canceled tapings of the Comedy Central nighttime talk show scheduled to take place Wednesday and Thursday due to "unforeseen circumstances," but details beyond that are scarce.
Claire Daines was supposed to be featured as a guest on last night's show, but a rerun was aired instead. Similarly, author Susan Cain was supposed to appear on tonight's episode, but she tweeted that the show was "canceled for tonight" and has been rescheduled for March.
Audience members scheduled for the two canceled episodes also took to Twitter to share the email The Colbert Report sent them about the change in plans.
"Due to unforeseen circumstances, we have canceled our taping for the date of your ticket reservation," the email reads. "We are very sorry for any inconvenience. Unfortunately, we are unable to reschedule your tickets."
That statement is very similar to the one Steve Albani, a spokesman for Comedy Central, sent to The New York Times. "Due to unforeseen circumstances, the show will air repeat episodes on Wednesday, February 15, and Thursday, February 16," he wrote. The Colbert Report typically doesn't tape new episodes on Friday.
Hopefully the reason for the cancelltions has nothing to do with the health of leading man Stephen Colbert. The typically vocal Twitter user has not updated his account since Tuesday.
