Beyonce just can't contain her excitement. Friday night, the singer sat down with 20/20's Katie Couric to promote her new concert DVD, Live at Roseland: Elements of 4. But of course, she ended up mostly talking about her even bigger news: the baby who's arriving very soon.
"It's the best thing -- it's so exciting because I believe it's what we live for, it's how we live forever, it's our legacy," said Beyonce, 30, of being pregnant with her first child. "And it's so much bigger than any accomplishment."
Of course, if anybody has an impressive list of accomplishments, it's singer-actress-dancer-choreographer-director-designer Beyonce. And if anybody else can compare, it's her husband Jay-Z -- who's just as excited about the baby as she is.
"You can only imagine (his excitement), and multiply that," Beyonce told Couric. "It's very exciting for both of us and our families. ... Everyone is so anxious. It's like the time just can't come fast enough."
During the interview, the singer talked about the thinking behind her decision to reveal her pregnancy in a single dramatic gesture at the MTV Video Music Awards.
"Physically I was starting to show, so it was only a matter of days before someone zoomed in," explained Beyonce. "So I just wanted it to be from me... And I didn't want to release a picture or a statement. I figured the biggest statement was to -- just be."
And how did it feel to make the crowd go wild with excitement over her news, breaking Twitter records in the process?
"Honestly, I just felt free. I really did, because I'd been holding the most exciting thing in for so long, and I just felt like, Wow, now I can enjoy and now I can just experience this the way that every woman should," she said. "And, you know, it was a beautiful feeling. ... I went straight off the stage and just cried. I hugged my mom, I hugged Jay and just cried. It was a beautiful day."
While Beyonce wouldn't confirm Internet rumors about the baby's sex or due date, she did knock down a few of the more absurd stories. For instance, that "fake bump" controversy, which she described as so ridiculous that "it doesn't even upset you." And then there was that story U.K. newspaper The Sun ran about her crazy pregnancy cravings, which she discovered when a flight attendant tried to give her hot sauce, pickles and bananas.
"I'm like, That is absolutely disgusting, what are you doing? He's like, 'I read it on the Internet," Beyonce recalled.
As happy as she is, there is one aspect of pregnancy that she's not excited about: getting in shape after the birth!
"I'm not looking forward to that," laughed the singer, "because I've been having a good time!"
