Charlize Theron may be a wicked stepmother on the big screen -- but as a real-life new mom, she couldn't be sweeter. In a cover story for Vogue UK, the Snow White and the Huntsman star gushes about her adopted son Jackson, calling him "the coolest kid ever." She also opens up about her decision to adopt her first child as a single mother.
"I've always been very honest in saying I wanted a family," Theron, 36, tells Vogue. "I've always known I wanted a family."
Besides, she jokes, "I don't think my mom could wait any more!"
The Oscar winner may not have a partner in parenting right now, but she has a great role model: her own mother.
"(I want) to be like my mom. Fair, tough, loving and supportive," she says. "My mom has made it possible for me to be who I am. Our family is everything. Her greatest skill was encouraging me to find my own person and own independence."
Theron, who split from longtime boyfriend Stuart Townsend in 2010, has hinted in the past that she would consider adoption when she was ready to start a family.
"There are so many unwanted children on this earth and it's our job to care for them. And if we don't we're doing the world a disservice," she told Germany's In Touch last August.
In an interview with Ryan Seacrest last month, Theron talked about how much her life had changed since she became a mom. "I now travel in a pack," she joked.
She also revealed her best new-mom secret: swaddling. "I didn't think I would be a fan of the swaddling, but the swaddling is pretty amazing," Theron admitted. "At first it looks like a straight jacket and you just feel like its child abuse, but they love it."
Sounds like Jackson has a lot of love in his life already.
