JC Chasez Saves Baby from Flying Beach Umbrella

JC Chasez Saves Baby from Flying Beach Umbrella

When it comes to protecting our nation's children, we now have a new line of defense: former N'SYNC members. JC Chasez, now a judge on America's Best Dance Crew, was vacationing on Miami Beach on New Year's Day when he reportedly saved the life of a 1-year-old child.

According to the New York Post, Chasez, 35, was hanging on the beach with his girlfriend in front of the Fontainebleau resort when a helicopter flew down quite close to the beach. The force of the rotors ripped the surrounding umbrellas from the sand, one of which went flying toward a family with a stroller. The girl in the stroller, little Shirel Nissim, was directly in the line of the umbrella.

Fortunately, Chasez noticed what was happening and leaped to grab the umbrella before it fell onto Shirel. The incident was confirmed by hotel security, as well as Shirel's grateful mother Netali Nissim.

"Shirel is safe because of him," Nissim, an Italian jewelry designer, told People on Thursday. "I want to tell him thank you from the bottom of my heart. If it had not been for him, my daughter could have been seriously hurt."

Nissim also tweeted a thank-you to the star ("Thank you JC you saved my princess Shirel"), along with a link to the Post story.

As for Chasez, sources say he was "sweet and humble" about his heroic deed. But we bet we know what he was really thinking: Top that, Justin Timberlake!
