The French really love Salma Hayek! President Nicolas Sarkozy has named the Mexican actress one of the lucky individuals to receive the 2012 Légion d'Honneur (Legion of Honour) this Sunday.
Hayek, 45, will enter the elite five-tiered honor academy with the grade of Chevalier or "Knight," People reports.
The Puss in Boots star was named in President Sarkozy's official New Year's list and will receive a formal induction in the Legion of Honour. Hayek will receive a Chevalier-grade medal from the President in the ceremony, which will likely occur at the Presidential residence, the Élysées Palace, in Paris some time in the next two months, says a source.
Usually membership in France's highest order is restricted to nationals, but foreign nationals can also be commended if they're considered to have served the country or to uphold French ideals in some way.
Hayek may not be French herself, but she is married to French billionaire Francois-Henri Pinault. In fact, she's not the only person in the family to receive an honor this year! Hayek's father-in-law, retired business magnate Francois Pinault, was promoted to the Legion's highest rank of Grand Officer.
Other famous Americans to receive the Legion of Honour include Jerry Lewis, Clint Eastwood, Robert Redford and Robert De Niro.
